Bettina's Story

Helping improve representation of people of color in clinical research

Bettina from West Baltimore shares why she participated in Care Access’s heart and kidney health screening at Liberty Grace Church. When she learned about the Future of Medicine program, she recognized the opportunity to address a common issue: the underrepresentation of people of color in medical research.

“One of the complaints we’ve always had is that research hasn’t included enough people of color, and they’ve had to apply results from other populations,” Bettina explains. “We need large enough samples to find answers and understand how diseases affect different groups of people.”

By participating, Bettina is helping ensure future research can lead to better treatments for everyone.
