BOSTON – May 22, 2023 – Care Access, a leading global clinical research site, today announced the opening of its first permanent site location in Canada, in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. Cape Breton is a historically underserved community in clinical trials, and this latest effort in Care Access’ mission to bring clinical research to hard-to-reach and underrepresented communities is the first step in Care Access’ goal to expand clinical trial access across the country.

Care Access presented an exhibit highlighting the benefits of clinical trials and its latest innovations at the 2023 SXSW Conference in Austin, Texas. SXSW (pronounced South by Southwest or South by) is the largest multidisciplinary event in the United States. As leaders in the community-centric approach to clinical trials, we embraced this unique opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations and amplify the need for healthcare to better reach the underserved. The exhibit had two components of "art" and "science."

We jointly embarked with Pfizer on the VALOR study to deliver this highly unique and complex research study. We worked closely with Pfizer every step of the way, from design to execution, in order to reach participants in remote and sometimes inaccessible communities where Lyme Disease is endemic.

The American Heart Association — the world’s leading voluntary organization dedicated to a world of longer, healthier lives — has announced an additional $4 million grant to add a sixth scientific research center and bring total funding to its Strategically-Focused Research Network (SFRN) on the Science of Diversity in Clinical Trials to $24 million.

While mild temperatures continue to sweep the nation well into October, city dwellers and communities across New England continue to spend days and nights outdoors. Increasingly, it is also the season for Lyme disease, a tick-borne illness that afflicts an estimated 476,000 people in the U.S. Children aged 5-14 years old have historically represented the largest share of confirmed cases, according to CDC data.
